Take a summer break with lower RV rates in the playful Florida Keys

Florida’s balmy islands in the sun

Key Largo Kampground and Marina. (MM 101.5)

This is the beginning of the off-season in the Florida Keys, and campgrounds are not in as high demand as they are in winter.

Rates fall, giving campers opportunities not always available during the busy winter season.

Some campgrounds are still in recovery mode following the destructive 2017 hurricane season, and a handful of campgrounds remain closed.

By and large, though, the Keys are back in business.

The Keys are popular with Floridians during the summer months, allowing an escape to ocean breezes as the rest of the state bakes in brutal heat and high humidity. The fishing in the Keys is great in summer, as well.

The 2018 lobster mini-season is July 25 and 26, and the regular season opens on August 6.

Rates quoted here do not including taxes, fees and add-ons such as dockage. Taxes add up to 12.5% in the Keys. Discounts are usually available for weekly, monthly and seasonal stays. (Here’s a separate guide to Best Tent Camping in the Florida Keys.)
