Howley’s diner: It’s back to the ’50s in West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH — I figure the term Old Florida has to include the 1950s: We have few enough historic spots left here in Florida, we have to cherish what’s left!

One such place is Howley’s, a diner founded in April 1950 that has changed hands only three times and was restored in 2004 to its original look and feel.

Vintage touches are everywhere in Howley’s interior.

Howley’s, 4700 S Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, keeps many of the diner traditions alive. It’s open from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. (4 a.m. weekends), it serves breakfast all day, and you can find meatloaf, brisket and macaroni and cheese on the menu.

The decor is kitschy cute and the food is pretty good. Our turkey wrap, Veggie Burger and fish and chips came with yummy sweet potato fries.

Howley’s departs from the diner menu to serve beer, wine and cocktails.

There’s no menu posted, but here’s Howley’s website.

You get a good range of views on Yelp.

We paired a visit to Howley’s with a bike outing on the Town of Palm Beach Lake Trail recently and we’ve stopped there after snorkeling at Peanut Island, too.
